What is megawatt hour?

The megawatt hour (or megawatt-hour) is a unit of energy equal to 3.6x109 joules (1 MWh = 3.6x109 J), the SI derived unit of energy. It is also equal to 3,600,000 kilojoules (kJ), or 860,420.65 kilocalories (thermochemical) (kcal), or 3.6x109 watt seconds (Ws), or 1,000,000 watt hours (Wh), or 1,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) or 0.001 gigawatt hours (GWh).

The megawatt hour is used for metering large amounts of electrical energy to industrial customers.
