About gigawatt hour
The gigawatt hour, or gigawatt-hour, is a unit of energy equal to 3.6 × 1012 joules (1 GWh = 3.6 × 1012 J), the SI derived unit of energy.
The gigawatt hour (GWh) is also equal to 3.6 × 109 kilojoules (kJ), or 8.6042065009 × 108 kilocalories (thermochemical) (kcal), or 3.6 × 1012 watt seconds (Ws), or 109 watt hours (Wh), or 1,000,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) or 1,000 megawatt hours (MWh).
The gigawatt hour is used for metering large amounts of electrical energy to industrial customers.
