What is fermi?
The fermi (also femtometer) is a unit of length in the metric system equal to 10-15 meters (1 fm = 10-15 m), the base unit of length in the International System of Units (SI). It is also equal to 10-6 nanometers (nm), or 10-9 micrometers (μm), or 10-12 millimeters (mm) or 10-13 centimeters (cm), which are SI units of length.
The fermi unit is named after the Italian physicist Enrico Fermi who lived between 1901 and 1954. One fermi is equal to one femtometer. The fermi measurement unit is used in nuclear physics.
Also known as:
femtometre (plural: femtometres), femtometer (plural: femtometers, US spelling)
