The average human walking speed is equal to about 1.39 meters per second (walking speed = 1.39 m/s), the derived unit of speed in the International System of Units (SI). It is also equal to approximately 5000 meters per hour (m/h), or 5 kilometers per hour (km/h) or 3.1 miles per hour (mph). Generally, the pedestrian walking speeds range between 4.51 km/h and 4.75 km/h for older individuals; for younger individuals, the walking speed ranges between 5.32 km/h and 5.43 km/h.
