What is gigawatt?

The gigawatt is a unit of power equal to 109 watts (1 GW = 109 W), the derived unit of power in the International System of Units (SI). It is also equal to 1012 milliwatts (mW), or 1015 microwatts (μW), or 1,000,000 kilowatts (kW), or 1,000 megawatts (MW) or 0.001 terawatts (TW).

1 GW = 109 W = 109 J/s = 109 N·m/s = 109 kg·m2/s3

(1 W = 1 J/s. The joule is a derived unit of energy in the SI while the second is a unit of time in the SI.)
